1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct sets out the standards every EDU Archives Tutors candidate is required to meet — on every placement, whether daily supply, long-term cover, permanent recruitment, tutoring (home, online or in-centre), or any other engagement. By accepting work through EDU Archives Tutors, you confirm that you have read and agree to act in line with this Code.
2. Professional conduct
Candidates are expected to act professionally at all times. This means arriving punctually, prepared, presenting yourself appropriately, and behaving with integrity towards children, families, colleagues, school leaders and EDU Archives staff.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the working day (in school) or your scheduled session (tutoring)
- Read and follow the host setting's behaviour, attendance and safeguarding policies on arrival
- Sign in and out using the school or setting's procedure on every visit
- Treat every classroom or room you're in like your own
- Maintain professional boundaries with children, parents and staff at all times
- Dress appropriately and modestly for the setting and age phase
- Keep mobile phones away from children during the working day; never use them in front of pupils
- Never photograph, film or audio-record children
3. Safeguarding
Every candidate is required to read EDU Archives Tutors' Safeguarding Policy, complete KCSiE 2024 Part One training, and refresh that training annually. Candidates must report any safeguarding concern to the host setting's DSL on the day it occurs and to EDU Archives Tutors' DSL within 24 hours.
You must never agree to keep a safeguarding disclosure secret. You must record any disclosure factually, in the child's own words where possible, and pass it on through the proper channels the same day.
4. Confidentiality
Information about students, families, colleagues, schools and EDU Archives Tutors must be treated as strictly confidential. You must not:
- Discuss children, families, staff or settings outside the professional context of your role
- Photograph, film, audio-record or screen-share children or classrooms
- Post about children, lessons, schools or staff on social media — public or private
- Share any document, image or piece of information about your placements via personal channels
- Use information learned through a placement for personal benefit
6. Gifts and hospitality
Candidates must not accept gifts or hospitality of more than nominal value (£20) from a family, school or third party in connection with their work. Gifts that could be perceived as influencing professional decisions — or as inappropriate grooming or favouritism — must be politely declined and reported to EDU Archives Tutors.
Tutors must not handle cash payments from families — all fees are billed through EDU Archives Tutors.
7. Reliability and notice
If you cannot attend a placement for any reason, contact EDU Archives Tutors immediately — by phone, before email — so we can arrange cover. Repeated late cancellation may result in removal from our register.
8. Reporting concerns about EDU Archives Tutors
If you have concerns about how EDU Archives Tutors operates, or about another candidate, you can raise them confidentially via our Whistleblowing Policy. We commit to handling all concerns fairly, confidentially and without detriment to the reporter.
9. Breach
Breach of this Code may result in removal from active placements, suspension from the EDU Archives Tutors register, termination of engagement, referral to relevant statutory bodies (DBS, LADO, police), and reporting to your professional regulator where applicable (e.g. the Teaching Regulation Agency).
This is a summarised public-facing version. The full operational policy is held internally and made available to clients on request. Last reviewed: January 2026.
