Tutoring · 11+

Specialist 11+ tutors who know the difference between Birmingham, Walsall, CEM and GL.

The 11+ is a hinge moment in a child's school journey — but only if the preparation matches the actual paper. Our 11+ tutors know your local exam (Birmingham consortium, Walsall, Sutton, Stratford, King Edward's, Bishop Vesey's, RGS Worcester, independents) and build a plan around the format your child will actually sit.

  • Format-aware

We match tutors to the format you'll sit — multiple-choice, standard format, or independent school written.

  • All four papers

Maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning — taught by specialists, not generalists.

  • Mock-paper drilling

Timed mocks under exam conditions, marked-up against actual band cut-offs from previous years.

  • Stamina & technique

It's not just content — it's pacing, elimination strategy and resilience for back-to-back papers.

  • Parent updates

Weekly notes show progress on each paper type, plus suggested home practice.

  • Wellbeing first

We never push children into burnout. Plans are realistic, kind and effective.

How it works

Our 11+ process

  1. 1

    Diagnostic mock

We run a baseline mock across all four paper types to identify exactly where to focus.

  2. 2

    Tailored plan

A weekly schedule of teaching, practice and review — usually 1 to 2 sessions per week, plus home practice.

  3. 3

    Mock-paper rhythm

Timed mocks every 4–6 weeks under exam conditions, with detailed mark-up and feedback.

  4. 4

    Final-stretch focus

In the last 8 weeks we narrow to high-impact weaknesses and exam-day routines.

Why local matters

11+ formats vary widely across the West Midlands. Birmingham's consortium uses standard-format multiple-choice papers; Walsall and Sutton use different cut-offs; King Edward's and Bishop Vesey's have their own arrangements; Worcester RGS, Stratford-upon-Avon and the independents each set their own papers.

We match tutors who know exactly what your child will sit — including pacing strategies for that specific paper, the historical band cut-offs, and the question types that come up most often.

What we won't do

We don't drill children into burnout, run group classes that are really just paper-marking sessions, or promise places we can't guarantee.

If 11+ isn't the right route for your child, we'll say so honestly — and help you think about alternatives. The goal is the right secondary school, not the most stressful path to it.

FAQs

Common questions

When should we start preparing?

Most children benefit from 12–18 months of structured prep. A Year 4 foundation programme works well for children targeting selective grammars; Year 5 is the latest comfortable start for the standard route. Bespoke crash plans are possible for late starters.

Do you guarantee a pass?

No reputable 11+ tutor can guarantee a pass — and anyone who does is misleading you. What we can do is build a plan, mark mocks honestly, and give you a clear, evidence-based view of your child's chance against current cut-offs.

How many sessions per week?

Typically 1–2 sessions of 45–60 minutes, plus 30–60 minutes of self-led home practice on alternate days. We'd rather a child does little-and-often than long, exhausting weekend sessions.
