UCAS deadline 2026: dates, exceptions and what to do if you miss one

UCAS deadlines for 2026 entry are set in stone — miss them and you'll be in a much weaker position. Here's the timeline, with the exceptions and recovery options if you miss a date.

Key dates

For 2026 entry:

• Mid-September 2025 — UCAS application opens
• Wednesday 15 October 2025 (6pm) — Oxbridge + Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary deadline
• Wednesday 14 January 2026 (6pm) — main UK deadline (most courses, most universities)
• Wednesday 25 February 2026 (6pm) — UCAS Extra opens for those without offers
• Friday 26 June 2026 — last day to apply for 2026 entry (very late, limited options)
• Tuesday 5 May 2026 — deadline to reply to your university offers (varies; check UCAS Hub)
• Wednesday 5 August 2026 (00:00) — Clearing opens for applications
• Thursday 14 August 2026 — A-Level results day

If you miss the January deadline

Applications received after 14 January 2026 are considered "at the discretion of the university". Many universities still accept late applications until 26 June for courses that aren't full — but you'll be assessed alongside Clearing-window applicants, which is a weaker pool.

Oxbridge or Medicine

Missing the 15 October deadline for Oxbridge or Medicine usually means waiting a full year. There are very limited exceptions for extenuating circumstances — contact the universities directly if you have a genuine reason.

UCAS Extra

If you've used all 5 application choices and have no offers (or have declined all your offers), UCAS Extra opens late February. You can apply for one course at a time, with the university responding within 21 days. This continues until June.

Clearing

Clearing is the catch-all from 5 July to mid-October. It's not just for missed-grade students — anyone without an offer can use it. Self-release into Clearing is also possible from 5pm the day before results day if you want to release your firm/insurance and try something different.

Preparation tips
